On the 22-23 April and the 13-14 May, Bronze Group 1 completed their practice and qualifying journeys in D’Aguilar National Park over 27 kilometres of rugged terrain each weekend. For many, this was their first experience hiking and camping in the wilderness.
Twenty-five Year 10 students hiked on and off trail, putting their skills of navigation and map reading to work as the team hiked down ridges through scrub to stunning views of Lake Manchester. They were challenged to push themselves past their comfort zones and work together as a team, helping each other out when others were in need.  Students swam in some cold mountain creeks and took in nature in its rawest forms.
There was celebration when we finished for the day and set up camp. The evenings were filled with laughter and talks around the campfire. Students have commented that they are sad the camps are over, but are already looking forward to Silver next year and planning their Gold trips in two years’ time.
