Wednesday 08 Aug 2018 by Cathy Hegarty

On Sunday, August 5 fifteen Year 7 to 11 Redlands College Japanese students competed in the inaugural MLTAQ Brisbane Secondary Japanese Speech Contest at Griffith University Nathan campus. Japanese teacher, Cathy Hegarty, organised and convened the exciting event with the MLTAQ President and Dr Leigh Kirwan of Griffith University. Nineteen Brisbane schools and just under 200 students participated in the Speech Contest and there were many smiling faces on the day. Over 40 volunteers assisted, some of whom were parents and friends of the College. Mrs Kyoko Zbirka and Mr. and Mrs Shizuka Wong, parents of the College, volunteered their time to Judge on the day and Mrs Wong also invited two Japanese friends to Judge. They enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to future Judging opportunities.

Teacher Cathy Hegarty is proud of the Redlands College students who participated and is very pleased with their efforts. Many students received a Medal or Highly Commended Certificate.
