START QUT gives students the best chance of finding a course they’ll enjoy by trying out university subjects while they’re in high school. Applications are now open and close on 31 October. Read more about the program and a day in the life of a START QUT student.
Help with decision making
It’s a big decision choosing what to study at university. To help with finalising QTAC preferences, students can attend a career workshop, take the Match My Skills quiz, complete the Kickstart Your Career online course, or make a face-to-face or phone appointment to get their questions answered. Apply for scholarships
Applications for many scholarships are now open. Now is the time for students to explore the opportunities and apply for any that are relevant.
Take a look at QUT Excellence Scholarships (academic and creative industries), Sport Scholarships, Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship, Equity Scholarships for students facing financial hardship, or check out the full range.
Information about entry to QUT in 2021 and beyond
There are some changes to subjects and the qualifications (including VET qualifications) we will consider for entry to QUT from 2021 and beyond. To find out more about how the changes will affect high school students and advice about selection ranks visit the Starting uni in 2021 and beyond website.
Public Health Hackathon
Teams of Year 11 and 12 students will work together to solve a contemporary health issue facing Australia. Teams will be briefed on the issue on the day of the competition, and will race the clock to prepare a recommendation, which will be presented to a panel of public health experts from both UQ and government.

Discovery Sandbox (school holidays program)
UQ Idea Hub Sandbox is a two day workshop (9:00am - 3:30pm) designed for Year 7 to Year 12 students. This hands-on program focuses on fostering an entrepreneurship mindset, to support the participants to be better learners, leaders and professionals. Students will learn how to identify complex problems and design impactful solutions.
This workshop has evolved into two days to include outside activities, more interaction with entrepreneurs and the university life. The next session will be held on the 25th and 26th of September. More information and tickets can be found here.
Scholarships for studies in Western Civilisation
Thirty scholarships of approximately $30,000 per year for the duration of the program are planned to be offered to students commencing studies in Western Civilisation in 2020. Students will be able to study Western Civilisation in two ways - as an extended major in the Bachelor of Advanced Humanities (Honours) or in the new Bachelor of Humanities/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) dual program.
Scholarship criteria and processes are still being finalised, however interested students can register their details here to be provided with information once confirmed. In the meantime, an outline of the curriculum can be viewed here.
Tertiary Preparation Program (TPP)
Do you have students looking for alternative pathways?
Applications are now open for the January 2020 intake of the Tertiary Preparation Program which is delivered by UQ College. The program will commence on 20 January 2020.
This 28 week program is a pathway to The University of Queensland where students can increase their rank and obtain relevant prerequisites for their degree of choice.
Applications close December 20, 2020.

Parents and families guide
Parents and families provide essential support when their children are thinking about further study after high school. Knowing the available options and being well informed can help make the selection process and transition to tertiary education much less daunting for all involved.

NEW PROGRAM: Bachelor of Business Innovation
Offered at Logan campus, the new Bachelor of Business Innovation is based on entrepreneurship, innovation and community. Students will study the foundations of business as core subjects and learn what they mean for business through a series of applied industry-integrated activities.
The degree is designed to ensure students graduate with a strong network among their cohort as well as extended ties to the community and industry organisations. With fast-track options and extensive hands-on learning experiences, this flexible degree will see students graduate with adaptable skills across a broad range of business environments.

BusinessPLUS scholarships now open
Griffith Business School has opened its suite of BusinessPLUS scholarships for students in Year 12 considering a degree in business or government from 2020. These scholarships reward potential as well as excellence, so students are encouraged to investigate their eligibility on a basis beyond grades alone.
The three BusinessPLUS scholarships being offered are Academic Excellence (OP 1-8, worth $15,000-$20,000), Transition Scholarship (OP 9-14, worth $7,500-$10,000), and First Peoples Scholarship (worth $15,000-$20,000).

Admission pathway into engineering
Griffith University is offering prospective students an admission pathway into engineering by sitting the Aptitude for Engineering Assessment (AEA) this September. Successful applicants will be offered admission into the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Electronic and Computer Engineering.
The AEA is a two-and-a-half-hour multiple choice test that assesses a candidate’s aptitude to think scientifically, solve quantitative problems, critically analyse information and display interpersonal understanding.
The exam, which costs $150 to sit, is open to both school leavers and mature applicants.
Register by Friday 20 September.

USQ (University of Southern Queensland) Updates:
USQ launched a number of new scholarships for school leavers with the aim of keeping them in the region.
School leavers who achieve an OP of 1-2/ATAR 97.5 will automatically receive a scholarship package valued up to $29,000, including an optional study abroad package and leadership development.
Students with an OP 6/ATAR 90 or above will be awarded a scholarship package valued up to $20,000 and OP8/ATAR 85 or above will be awarded up to $6,000. There are no caps to the scholarships available, as long as students put USQ as their first preference on QTAC, they will receive the award.
Future Community Leaders Scholarships are still available to students, however, due to high demand the closing date has been extended until 15 September.
USQ Television & Radio Two Day Experience

Who: Years 10 - 12
This is an opportunity for students to produce their own Television or Radio show. Places are limited to just 35 school students (25 Television and 10 Radio) and are booking out fast. Don't miss this fantastic experience on Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 September 2019 during the school holidays.
USQ Inspiring Health Two-Day Experience

The Inspiring Health Experience is designed for those who have an enthusiastic interest in the industry and future aspirations to study:
Places are limited to just 80 school students (20 students per industry), to engage with USQ academics, current students and our industry partners. The experience will outline some of the opportunities and the future needs the industry is facing, and give attendees a chance to experience the USQ facilities and the industry first-hand.

- have a ‘creative mind’ and are ‘smart thinkers’
