As part of the HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences) curriculum, during Library lessons Year 3 addressed one of their key Inquiry Questions: How do people contribute to their communities, past and present?
In our lessons, we worked towards understanding how forming questions carefully gives the opportunity to gather much more useful information and develop depth of understanding when proceeding with an inquiry. We explored the difference between closed and open questions and questions based on resources through to reflections about life.
The expectation was for students to develop their questioning skills (ahead of time) so they could then effectively interview nine volunteers and understand how these people contribute to our community.
Thank you to our wonderful nine volunteers who generously gave of their time and who gently guided our students as they developed their questioning skills.
