What an exciting few weeks it has been with districts finals taking place across both the Middle and Senior Schools. First out were our Year 6 and Year 7 teams competing at the Gala Day where the girls won both the A and B division. Next team to contest finals were the Year 8 girls who were triumphant over Cleveland on Tuesday.
Wednesday saw the Year 10 and Opens teams up against Cleveland for the title. First up were the Year 10 team, who started out a little slowly but as they settled into the game they were able to increase their margin each quarter winning comfortably.
Next up were the Opens girls, they also had a slow start with Cleveland enjoying a 9 goal advantage at the end of the first quarter. Resilience was the name of the game with the girls narrowing the margin at each quarter to end in a draw at the full time whistle. A further 10 minutes of extra time was played with the score still being locked up. Our fate was now to be decided by the District by-laws which applies the for and against formula.
The Opens strong performances throughout the season have resulted in them finishing in first place and now progressing through to the next round of finals with our other three teams.
What a fantastic result for the netball programme. I believe our attendance at the Gold Coast Carnival during the holidays has reaped rewards for our teams this year.
Well done girls!
