In December 2016, 32 Redlands College students boarded a plane to Melbourne to compete in the largest school based sporting event in the Southern Hemisphere. The Australian Volleyball Schools Cup attracts 500 teams from 133 schools across Australia and New Zealand and offers students an opportunity to partake in camaraderie and enthusiastic competition whilst developing a taste for the sport. Redlands College also received a 10yr service plaque to show our years of participating at this carnival.
Often highlighted as the event of the year in the Volleyball calendar, 2016 saw Redlands College take the largest group of teams yet down to Melbourne including:
Open Boys (Div 1) - placing 17th out of 22 teams
Open Girls (Div 2) - placing 9th out of 24 teams
Year 10 Boys (Honours) – placing 5th out of 8 teams
Year 10/11 Girls (Div 2) – placing 7th out of 16 teams
Throughout the week-long tournament our teams showcased incredible rallies, unbelievable points and outstanding school spirit. The support that each team showed towards each other was exceptional as we stomped, clapped and elevated our team’s spirits to victory over some of the biggest Volleyball schools in the country such as Heathfield and Brighton. It was a true testament to our sporting spirit here at Redlands College and something we strive further to achieve in the future.
All of our student’s hard work and dedication to training, competitions and team spirit should be highly commended as we look forward to another great year in 2017.
