It is a great honour to be Dean of Arts at Redlands College. Since 2002, I have been part of the Redlands College community and have over 30 years teaching experience. I have been a Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) District Panel member for Brisbane East Visual Art since 2002 and QCAA Brisbane East District Panel Chair since 2012. A member of the Expert Writing team for the 2019 Visual Art syllabus, consequently I was invited to be part of the team to write a new textbook for Cambridge University Press to complement the new syllabus. I am currently a member of the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) Teacher Advisory Group which is part of the GOMA Learning Team where we prepare resources and provide presentations for teachers and students on current artists’ works and practices. I am also a member of the Redland Art Gallery Exhibition and Acquisition Advisory Panel. All of these roles have enabled me to have a greater insight into the wider Visual Art Community and maintain vital arts connections. I have a Bachelor of Education from Griffith University and a Masters of Visual Art from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University. As a practicing artist, I identify with the struggles and triumphs our students go through when they are in the throes of their art making process.
Community, Culture and Curriculum are crucial areas in the arts. The Arts at Redlands College aims to connect our students through our talented and experienced Arts staff into the broader Arts Community of the Redlands, Brisbane and beyond. We are not only working through best arts teaching practice but are also continually searching for and acting upon next best arts teaching practice as we aim to strengthen Redlands College Arts Culture.
