The success of a school in the care and nurture of its students ultimately comes down to the quality of the staff. The teachers at Redlands College are the finest group of caring professionals I have encountered. They have a genuine concern for the well being of each child in their care.
Stability and continuity of staff are crucial to building the culture of any organisation, but particularly a school. With half the original staff from the College’s beginning 20 years ago, and very low staff turnover, we have been able to build year on year, continuously developing and maintaining our culture and providing a sound platform from which to launch innovation.
In addition, a number of our staff are past students of the College, bringing with them the values that were instilled in them during their time as students. It is gratifying to know that their school experience inspired them to teach.
Students learn better when they are happy and safe. Having teachers who are also happy in their work and who create an environment in which students can be emotionally as well as physically safe, creates a place where learning can occur effectively.
The key for our staff is that they consider their relationship with each student to be a 3-way relationship – with God included. For our teachers see their teaching as a ministry, not just a job. That’s what it means to be a Christian school.
